Tomorrow
“Come now, you who say, Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a city and spend a year there and carry on our business and make money. Yet you do not know [the least thing] about what may happen tomorrow. What is the nature of your life? You are [really] but a wisp of vapor (a puff of smoke, a mist) that is visible for a little while and then disappears [into thin air].”
James 4:13-14AMPC
I read something somewhere, ‘We often say life is short, enjoy it, how about Eternity is long, better prepare for it’ and it gives perspective.
I’m sure the majority of us are familiar with the Bible text for today but let’s have in mind that while the message is that our lives are fleeting and we ought to restrain from making plans or statements without recognizing that uncertainty of life, today’s message is to make the best of today so that posterity thanks us.
We don’t get to control tomorrow and believe you me, that’s amazing! It’s so amazing to know that the All-knowing God, the One that thinks good thoughts towards you, controls your tomorrow, now while it’s a privilege to hand over the reins of our life to the Almighty for days we can’t manage, we have a duty to manage today, the present in a way as not to be found wanting tomorrow. Ecclesiastes 9:7-9 emphasizes on enjoying life but let’s not forget Apostle Paul’s admonishment in 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 to constantly bring our bodies to subjection so that after all our preaching, we won’t be castaways.
Dear reader, I learned some years back that God has bestowed on us all that we need to live for Him and I love how in Ecclesiastes 9, we’re told that God already has approved what we do but with this free will, we have to ensure to live our lives in a way that we won’t be judged tomorrow.
If you’re in business, make decisions that will profit the business longterm rather than spontaneous momentary decisions, if you’re in academia, do something everyday that will amount to something in the future, it could be reading a chapter of a book or writing or for say 10 minutes, if you’re trying to be a better you, think of the you that you want to see and show up like him or her or do something everyday that draws you closer to that version of you, if you’re walking with God, avoid doing things that could pull you apart no matter how inconsequential they seem, you get the format, live today for tomorrow.
So don’t make your boasting in routine, don’t forget that you’re not in charge of tomorrow but see it as the best gift to you and enjoy today but not at tomorrow’s expense.
Happy weekend blessed soul!🤍

Great post! I also take the bible focus as an admonishment of putting things away for later. Don't put off reading the Bible until tomorrow, don't delay your quiet time until the weekend, let each day be redeemed.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
Yes and I love that you were able to pick something, indeed, procrastination is a form of pride because why think that you’re entitled tomorrow to the opportunities you’ve been given today? All the same, may God help us not to push to tomorrow what we can do today and ultimately to recognize His sovereignty over and above all our plans.
