Look Back
When life gets rough, tough, or frustrating, we tend to be too caught up in it, and as Christians, we sometimes doubt God's sovereignty in all things. We forget about the things he has done before, and we wonder if He can still do more. We hope, we pray, but if it takes long, or if there's a sea of problems before us, most times, our faith wanes.
In times like that, we should look back and see what the Lord has done.
“Bless the LORD, O my soul, And forget not all his benefits…”
Psalm 103:2 KJV
Life can be challenging, but in these times, I urge you to look back and see the times He fought for you. The times He helped or saved you. Those sickness bouts that He pulled you through. Those moments of needs that somehow got sorted out. The times when you were favoured. Just like David did when things went awry again.
“When the LORD turned again the captivity of Zion, We were like them that dream.
Then was our mouth filled with laughter, And our tongue with singing: Then said they among the heathen, The LORD hath done great things for them.
The LORD hath done great things for us; Whereof we are glad.
Turn again our captivity, O LORD, As the streams in the south.
They that sow in tears Shall reap in joy.
He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, Shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.” Psalm 126:1-6 KJV.
In times of trouble, he remembered what the Lord had done for them before. That is exactly what we should do.
And if you think He hasn't done anything of repute (which I completely disagree with), then recall that you are still alive. It seems like the bare minimum, but it is as a result of His mercy. Remember that.
When we look back, in this context, we are reminded of and appreciate the God who we are serving, and we are able to trust Him more. That was King David's trademark throughout Psalms- recalling God's moments of help.
Today, your assignment is to recount the times when the Lord came through for you. And I pray your faith in Him grows stronger as you realize that He only has plans to prosper and not harm you.
