JUDAS

Image
Luke 6:16 KJV [16] and Judas the brother of James, and Judas Iscariot, which also was the traitor. Judas is a Hebrew name meaning "Praise". There are many people who bear the name "Judas" recorded in the Bible but our focus would be on Judas Iscariot (one of the twelve disciples). Judas was human, a real person in fact. He had emotions, he had desires, he was like you, he was like me. He made some mistakes, and one of the most notorious mistakes was the betrayal of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Judas was one of the twelve disciples that Jesus chose to be "fishers of men". He was anointed. He watched Jesus perform miracles and even performed miracles and healed the sick. Woah. What changed? What went wrong? Nobody is impervious to falling by his or her own strength. That is why Jude 1:24 says that it is God who is able to keep us from falling. Did Judas really surrender all? Luke 14:28, 33 NIV [28]  “Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t yo...

Self-control

Image
Self-control isn’t exactly the most talked about fruit of the Spirit. February 14th is all about Love. How about joy? Trust to find Nehemiah 8:10 in Instagram captions But self-control? Not so much.  The thing is, self-control is often the backbone that keeps all the other fruits in check. Without it, love turns selfish and peace becomes passive. Galatians 5:22-23 tells us: "[22] But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, [23] gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”- NIV Here’s the truth, self-control isn’t about suppressing who we are or being terrified of making a mistake. It’s about discipline that leads to freedom. Let me explain. Why Does Self-Control Matter? Proverbs 13:3 says "[3] Those who guard their lips preserve their lives, but those who speak rashly will come to ruin.” That clapback might feel good in the moment, but does it honor God? The answer is NO! Self-control helps you choose...

Paracletus

John 14:16 (GNT) I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, who will stay with you forever. Let me introduce you to the person of the Holy Spirit who is the third person in the Holy Trinity. Third not because He’s the least but because He’s the last to be revealed to us in Scripture. The word ‘Paracletus’ or ‘ParaklÄ“tos’ is a Greek word that means Advocate, Comforter, Counselor or Helper. In the preceding chapters, Jesus was speaking of His departure to His disciples and after telling them to keep His commandments if they love Him, He gave them the promise of the Advocate, the Helper, the Consoler, the Comforter, how timely! Jesus knew of how the disciples would struggle with Him leaving and He gave them the assurance of a Helper even before leaving. That promise is not just for the disciples, it’s for as many as have laid their eyes on these words or heard these words and received them into their hearts, received Jesus. Isn’t it amazing how He never left them, as a ma...

A Life.

Image
John 14:6 NIV [6] Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.  Life is defined as a worthwhile existence. A lot of people are alive but are not actually living. Are you really living? Is your life characterised by some daily routine: sleep, eat, greet and repeat? Hey friend, there's more to life! There's so much in store for you. Don't live a casual life to please someone or conform to a standard or to criteria that don't speak truth. Do you want to be true? God has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light to show forth His praises and to fulfill destiny. What does His word say? It says in 3 John:2 that He wishes above all things that you prosper and be in health even as your soul prospers. Also, Jeremiah 29:11 says that the thoughts God thinks about you are thoughts of peace and not evil, to give you an expected end. There is a void in everyone's life that can only be filled by Jesus. Jesus is t...
