The Fear of the Lord

“I have a message from God in my heart concerning the sinfulness of the wicked: There is no fear of God before their eyes.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭36‬:‭1‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Fear of God’, when I hear this I think of cowering before a deity and I’ve now learnt that that’s not exactly what God is saying. You know how no matter how you hate someone in a high position, when you see them you have to give them their respect even if it’s not genuine? That speaks of reverence, honor.

Proverbs 9:10 tells us that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, Proverbs 24:3 further tells us that through wisdom is a house built…

In our text today, we’re told of the sinfulness of the wicked which verses 3&4 go on to explain, I understand that we as Christians love to claim and confess our love for God but not many of us portray it, in the same way we reverence Him with our mouths but we’re guilty of verses 3&4 and Matthew 15:8.

It is the fear of God that keeps us from doing what’s lawful but not expedient, thus, when everyone is going a certain route that you know  doesn’t please God because ‘nobody is seeing them’, you don’t, simply because it doesn’t please God, it is the fear of God that stops us from misbehaving in church or a religious gathering despite the fact that there’s nobody to keep you in check, it’s the fear of God that keeps you from engaging in conversations that speak ill of the body of Christ, after all nobody will beat you, it’s your mouth.

There’s so much to talk about on the fear of God, indulging in mocking God’s Name, speaking ill of His prophets, desecrating sacred places and things, calling His Name vainly, doubting Him even, questioning Him, laxity in the gathering of the saints, taking the things of God with so much levity, indifference and neglect, don’t forget that He’s the one that gave you life, He can give and He can take, do not be deceived, God is not mocked, what you sow you’ll reap.

Peace be unto you!🤍
