Green and Go?

Dear reader, I kid you not when I say that doing good unto others brings another dimension of joy to the heart. Sure, receiving presents are amazing but it’s wonderful to be the reason someone else feels blessed. I urge you to try it or continue to do it- offer your help when you can and in your capacity.

For as long as I can remember, when it came to the story of Ruth and Naomi, it always seemed like Orpah made the wrong choice by not being more insistent on following Naomi which made me to wonder; “how did Ruth know it was the right thing to do?”

Naomi was past middle aged and she had lost her husband and two sons. She was understandably going through a tough time in her life and wanted to return to Bethlehem.  Both Ruth and Orpah wanted to go with her but she had to explain to them and made them see that there were no prospects for them if they returned to Bethlehem with her.

Orpah decided to return to her mother’s home but Ruth on the other hand, was adamant about not leaving Naomi. For all we know, Orpah must have gone on to live a great life.

In verses 16-18 of Chapter 1, it is clear that Ruth loved her mother-in-law and wanted to be there for her. I am very pleased that it all worked out in the end for them.

What about us? I believe it is very important that we acknowledge our Heavenly Father in all our ways. It may seem like we have it all figured out but we have to remember that He knows the end from the beginning. It is also important to be receptive to his counsel.

I hope these words leave us with something to ponder on.
