“Don’t become partners with those who reject God. How can you make a partnership out of right and wrong? That’s not partnership; that’s war. Is light best friends with dark?

‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭6:14-18‬ ‭MSG‬‬

Another version says not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers, brethren, make a mental list of your five closest friends and assess their relationship with God, if it’s not worthy of emulation, you need a change of circle.

As a Christian, the same way we need food for nutrients for the human system, we need the Word of God to give nutrients to our spirits and apart from that, in our spiritual journey, we need godly friends that’ll be there to help us when we’re falling, friends that will support us and at the same time tell us when we’re not on the right track, friends that aren’t just there for the title or the good days or the clout.

Having friends who hype you up is cool until you get into serious trouble and you need someone to pray for you, do you have those type of friends that’ll take up your issues to God and cause terror to the Kingdom of darkness because of you?

‘Show me your friend and I’ll tell you who you are’, if all your friends do is gossip, slowly, you’ll find yourself beginning to get used to gossiping, in the same way, if you see all your friends studying the Bible or always talking about Jesus, it’d lead you to want to or to do the same.

Friends are extremely important in spiritual growth, no man is an island, good company brings about good attitudes whereas bad company does otherwise.

Having unbelieving friends doesn’t make you or the friends evil instead it keeps drawing you little by little away from the things of God. If we go on to verse 16 of 2 Corinthians 6, we see that we are God’s temple which is why we are not to be connected with unbelievers, a temple is sacred, we are sacred, God’s own, set apart, therefore we must not defile or contaminate the temple of God.

“God Himself put it this way: “I’ll live in them, move into them; I’ll be their God and they’ll be my people. So leave the corruption and compromise; leave it for good,” says God. “Don’t link up with those who will pollute you. I want you all for myself. I’ll be a Father to you; you’ll be sons and daughters to me.” The Word of the Master, God.”

‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭6:16-18‬ ‭MSG‬‬

Your association determines your actions. Picture a school setting, probably test period and your friends are studying, will you be waiting for them to finish so you can play? No! You’ll go and get your books as well except you’re stubborn headed like me but even at that, I’d eventually pick up my books to study.

Point is, ask for God’s help when choosing your friends because they very much have the ability to make or mar you, keeping friends because you can all relate to depression, no! Definitely not!

Look at the company you keep, are they drawing you closer to God? Do they even believe in Him? Do they have personal relationship with Him? Do they help you become or do better? Are they there for you or it’s just you?

If more than 3 of these questions have no as answers, check your associations, limit some sort of relationships and get connected to that friend who sticks closer than a brother.
